The OnlyFans platform announced Wednesday it would not implement planned changes to its acceptable use policy prohibiting any “sexual content” from the website.
“Our Acceptable Use Policy will remain the same,” OnlyFans said in an email. “The proposed October 1, 2021 changes are no longer required due to banking partners’ assurances that OnlyFans can support all genres of creators.”
“OnlyFans is committed to providing a safe and dependable platform for all creators and their fans,” the statement continued.
The website is walking back the changes it announced last week after receiving harsh criticism from many adult creators who made the website famous.
OnlyFans had said last week it would prohibit sexual content beginning in October, citing pressure from banks and the company’s despite “to ensure the long-term sustainability.”
The platform has struggled to attract outside investors and venture capitalists. The company wants to raise enough money to buy out its majority owner.
More than 130 million people use the content platform to post or consume content. Last year, OnlyFans reported more than $2 billion in sales. The vast majority of those transactions were for adult content creators. Many of them joined at the outset of or during the pandemic as a way to boost their incomes.
Competitor JustForFans — which bills itself as a platform for sex workers — accused OnlyFans of going “mainstream” and “abandoning” the content creators who made it successful.
