Peloton is alerting customers Thursday of a tragic accident involving one of the company’s Thread+ treadmills resulting in a child’s death.
The news came in an email from CEO and Co-Founder John Foley to some customers, in which he wrote that Peloton had been aware of previous incidents where children were hurt and that "each one is devastating to all of us at Peloton, and our hearts go out to the families involved."
This one, however, "resulting in, unthinkably, a death."
The email didn’t provide further details about the incident, including the age of the child, where or how it happened.
He went on to offer safety tips, including keeping children and pets away from exercise equipment, checking the space around your equipment before a workout and keeping the safety key out of reach of children when it’s not being used.
"We are always looking for new ways to ensure that you have the best experience with our products, and we are currently assessing ways to reinforce our warnings about these critical safety precautions to hopefully prevent future accidents," Foley wrote in the email obtained by KCBS Radio.
The Peloton Thread+ treadmill retails for $4,295.
