A good Samaritan who tried to stop an attempted robbery of a Dallas gas station was killed by the robber during the incident on December 30.
Now police have arrested a suspect.
Kauren Mayo, 18, was taken into custody by Dallas police and is alleged to be the would-be robber who shot and killed Martin Noquez, 41, and also injured the store’s cashier.
Police say Noquez was shot when he attempted to halt the robbery in progress.
“It gives us a little peace of mind,” Noquez's sister-in-law, Lorena Noquez, said of the arrest.
“We are really trying in our heart to forgive this person, but it's really hard right now. We want justice to be served for Martin, and we hope the person gets the longest sentence possible,” she added.
The incident was recorded by the gas station’s surveillance cameras. The Dallas Police Department had previously asked for the public’s help in identifying the suspect.
Mayo has been charged with murder.
