DEARBORN (WWJ) President Joe Biden took the stage at the Ford Electric Vehicle Center in Dearborn ahead of the unveiling of the Ford F150 electric version, likely tomorrow.
“My name is Joe Biden,” he opened his speech. “And I am a car guy.”
On a stage decked out in the American flag and the classic version of the F150, he spoke about creating American jobs and moving America up on the world stage… with the electric vehicle at the heart of the plan.
“The rest of this world is moving fast, moving ahead. They are not waiting for the United States of America,” he said.
He especially highlighted China, where he said at least 80% of the electric vehicles are made.
“China is leading this race. Make no bones about it. It’s just a fact,” he said.
He said his plans to give the U.S. a leg up on the competition include passing an American Jobs Plan—“a blue collar blue print to rebuild America”--transform infrastructure with a 2-trillion dollar bill, and installing some 500,000 charging stations along our roads, and outside homes.
America's infrastructure is currently 38th in the world, the President said.
He did not go into exact details of how we would achieve this, but said a bipartisan deal is in the works. WWJ confirmed the legislation is expected to pass through the Senate sometime this week.
Biden administration and the GOP are meeting on an infrastructure bill as we speak.
“Doing nothing is not an option,” he said. He added we are at a ‘critical inflection’ our country’s history, but that America will come out stronger if everyone works together.
“We’ve shown the world there is no quit in America. There is simply no quit in America….This is the United States of America….there is not a single thing beyond our capacity when we come together.”
Mr. Biden also had a special shoutout for Governor Whitmer.
“Gretchen, God love you dear. You got a backbone like a ramrod and a brain bigger than anyone in the business. It’s an honor to know you.”
He also acknowledged several other Michigan Democrat politicians including Rep. Elissa Slotkin, Rep. Rashida Tlaib, and Rep. Debbie Dingell and her late husband Congressman John Dingell.
He arrived on Air Force One around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, where he was greeted by Rep. Dingell and Rep. Tlaib.
In addition to his talk, Pres. Biden also had the opportunity to drive around in the electric F150.
