If you’re a former or current customer of Verizon, then you may be eligible to claim part of a $100 million class-action settlement, but you’ll have to act soon.
The settlement from the phone carrier is the result of a lawsuit with Verizon Wireless subscribers that alleged the company provided an extra “administrative charge” to customers’ monthly bills in order to “extract additional cash.”
The lawsuit was filed last year, and in the court battle, the plaintiff’s lawyers argued that the company “deceived” its subscribers by adding the “administrative charge” to their bills “without [their] consent.”
Lawyers also alleged that Verizon “never adequately or honestly disclosed” the fee to customers before they subscribed to the service. Verizon also allegedly “uniformly charged them higher monthly rates than it advertised and promised,” the complaint said.
Verizon has denied any wrongdoing, according to the settlement website.
As for those who are eligible for the settlement money, any current Verizon customers who had a postpaid wireless or data service plan and were charged for the “Administrative Charge and/or an Administrative and Telco Recovery charge” between Jan. 1, 2016, and Nov. 8, 2023, are eligible to receive compensation.
Eligible customers will receive between $15 and $100 depending on the length of time they were a customer.
To get the settlement, customers need to file a compensation request form through the claims website or file a print claim by downloading the form and mailing it to the address listed on it.
The deadline for filing a claim is April 15, the settlement website says.
