President Joe Biden says his predecessor shouldn’t receive intelligence briefings "because of his erratic behavior unrelated to the insurrection."
The president made the comments in a lengthy interview on "CBS Evening News with Norah O’Donnell," touching on a wide range of topics, including former President Donald Trump.
"I’d rather not speculate out loud," Biden said when asked about his worst fears if Trump continues to get the briefings. "I just think that there is no need for him to have the…intelligence briefings. What value is giving him an intelligence briefing? What impact does he have at all, other than the fact he might slip and say something?"
The White House has been reviewing Trump’s access to the classified briefings since he left office last month. Several Democratic lawmakers have spoken out against Trump receiving the intelligence.
The former president's second impeachment trial is scheduled to begin next week in the U.S. Senate related to the pro-Trump riot at the Capitol last month.
In what’s become a Super Bowl tradition, the president sat down with O’Donnell, the lead anchor of the network carrying the game. When the Super Bowl airs on Fox, sister channel Fox News has stepped in to lead the interview.
