A Berkeley man has been accused of murder in connection with a shooting that took place minutes before he was injured in a car accident on Interstate 80 in Reno, Nevada.
Laron Edward, 51, was also charged with attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, discharging a firearm from a vehicle and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.
Investigators said Edward was the passenger in a car driven by Nichoel Davis, 40, of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Davis' black 2016 Acura tried to pass a tractor-trailer on the shoulder of the highway, witnesses told the Nevada Highway Patrol.
The Acura then clipped the truck, overturned in the median and struck another tractor-trailer headed eastbound. Troopers were on scene shortly, and the Nevada Highway Patrol said they were responding to a call about shots fired at a truck from a passing black sedan.
Officials found a blue 2021 Chevrolet Silverado with bullet holes and a shattered window on the highway, but they haven't released further details.
