SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS RADIO) – California is offering some relief for taxpayers and business owners who were impacted by the recent storms.

Many businesses around the state are still digging out from the damage caused by the past few weeks of heavy rainfall. California wants to help them out. "We're offering time to businesses that have been impacted by the storm," said Tamma Adameck, Deputy Director of Strategic Initiatives and External Affairs at California Department of Tax and Fee Administration.

Adameck told KCBS Radio that small businesses can apply for a three month extension on state taxes that are due between January 4 and 31. "We're giving them an additional three months to file their taxes," she explained. "We also are relieving them of any penalties or fees." The taxes won't be due until the end of April.

Small businesses who paid under $1 million in taxes last year can apply without any proof of damage, but larger businesses will need to show proof.

To apply, visit cdtfa.ca.gov. "We've got a banner across the top of the page that says 'click here for disaster relief,'" Adameck instructed. The deadline is the end of April.
