Hundreds of Southern California school employees have been fired after refusing to get vaccinated.
496 Los Angeles Unified employees were let go on Friday after they declined to receive the district mandated COVID-19 vaccine. The workers were required to receive their first dose in October and second dose by Nov. 15.

The school board voted 7-0 in favor of their termination, citing safety as their main priority.
"We care deeply about all of our employees," Interim Superintendent Megan K. Reilly said. "Parting ways with individuals who choose not to be vaccinated is an extremely difficult, but necessary decision to ensure the safety of all in our school communities. We wish everyone the best in their future endeavors and encourage everyone to get vaccinated."
It is currently unknown how many of the fired employees were teachers. The district said that those who were terminated may be eligible for reemployment if they get vaccinated.
