Crews are continuing to tackle the Cache Fire, which erupted in Lake County Wednesday afternoon.

According to a CAL FIRE update Thursday night, the fire has reached 40% containment and covers about 75 acres. Previous reports had it at about 80 acres but more accurate mapping brought it down to 75, according to a CAL FIRE tweet.

So far, it’s estimated that about four dozen Lake County homes were lost in the blaze so far, decimating a local mobile home park Wednesday.

Greg Knowlton, a resident of a neighboring Cache Creek mobile home park, said that the evacuation was chaotic.

"We helped them (the emergency crews) a little bit, making some pathways into the mobile home park, but then we realized we needed to get out," said Knowlton

Knowlton is a longtime Lake County resident. Fires aren’t anything new for him, but this most recent experience felt different. "This is…this is bad, a lot of people’s homes went up in smoke," he said, describing the area as "decimated."

Roughly 1,300 residents remain under evacuation orders.

Lake County Sheriff Bryan Martin estimated that it will take a couple of days before they are allowed to return. "There are some people who won’t be able to come back at all," he said.
