As the state expands vaccine eligibility to Californians aged 50+, Governor Gavin Newsom received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine in Los Angeles.

The Governor earlier this month announced that starting April 1, Californians aged 50+ are eligible to make an appointment to be vaccinated. Individuals 16+ will be eligible to make an appointment to be vaccinated starting on April 15.

LA County officials estimate they have the capacity to administer 700,000 vaccine doses per week, but supplies so far have failed to reach that level.

Los Angeles County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer says she's hopeful those numbers will be going up very soon.

LA County expanded its eligibility list recently: Among those most recently added to the list of people who can get shots: gardeners, landscapers, nannies and house cleaners, who work more than 20 hours a week.
