In another attempt to combat the effects of global warming, the governor has announced a list of steps the administration is taking to strengthen the state against extreme heat.

"It has four parts," Wade Crowfoot, Natural Resources secretary told KCBS Radio. "One focused on building public awareness and notification. The second to strengthen community response through providing support to folks when these heat waves come. The third area is improving buildings and lastly fourth is nature base solutions things like urban greening and greening schoolyards to keep temperatures cool and to protect kids and seniors and community members."

The state legislature and the governor are investing almost a billion dollars towards the action plan. Crowfoot said the plan is intended to get the state ready for the inevitable effects of global warming.

"California is a big state and we are not suggesting that there is a silver bullet solution to extreme heat, but we do think that there are important things that communities can do and state government can support," he explained.

Crowfoot believes Californians need to be prepared for extreme heat like others preparing for winter rainstorms.
