The River Fire has continued to roar on the Madera-Mariposa County line, causing Madera to declare a local state of emergency Tuesday evening.

CAL FIRE reported Wednesday morning that the blaze, which started on July 11, has burned 9,500 acres with 21% containment.

The Madera County Board of Supervisors described the area’s resources as “strained.” Through the declaration of a state of emergency, Madera has formally called on state and federal officials to replenish county resources and provide necessary aid.

At 3 p.m. on Wednesday, CAL FIRE released a statement lifting evacuation orders and warnings in all of Mariposa County. The news release also included a handful of specific areas in Madera County.

The fire has destroyed one house and four outbuildings, while continuing to threaten 600 other structures.

More than 1,500 firefighters are working to contain the blaze, with 121 engines, 24 water tenders, nine helicopters, 12 hand crews and 25 dozers.

No injuries have been reported.
