As predicted, Mammoth Mountain has taken first prize in this week's snowfall competition. The central Sierra ski resort may collect as much as 10 feet of snow by the end of the week.
"It has been a full-on winter wonderland up here since Tuesday night," said Lauren Burke, director of communications at Mammoth Mountain. "We have had non-stop heavy snowfall. And as of this morning we have picked up 8 to 9 feet of snow."
Burke added that more snowfall is expected.
"The town went from basically dry to you can't even see the street signs now," Burke said. "Everything is covered. it truly is incredible to see in person."
Berk said that residents should take note of difficult road conditions and extreme avalanche danger this week. But she added that even with the monstrous storm, the Sierra Nevada range still falls below normal of the average seasonal snowfall.
The storm also brought 6.5 feet of snow at Squaw Valley, about 7.5 feet at Kirkwood and more than 5 feet at Sugar Bowl and Homewood.
