Las Vegas, NV (KDWN) – The Southern Nevada Health District on Thursday announced the first flu-related death in Clark County for 2026.
The person was only identified as a man in his 50s with other underlying medical conditions.
Health officials noted that while an influenza-related death this early in the season is concerning, it remains too early to predict the overall severity of the 2026–2027 flu season. Flu activity generally peaks later in the winter, between December and February.
The Southern Nevada Health District and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) strongly urge everyone 6 months of age and older to get their annual seasonal flu vaccine, as well as the updated COVID-19 vaccine, to help protect against severe illness. High-risk groups include:
- Adults aged 65 and older
- Children younger than 2 years old
- Pregnant women
- Individuals with compromised immune systems or chronic underlying medical condition
