Nevada's unemployment rate drops below 5%

Las Vegas, NV (KDWN) - Nevada's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate dropped to 4.8% in August, According to data released this week by the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR). The August figure marks a 0.2 percentage point decrease from the 5.0% rate recorded in July.

It’s the first time Nevada’s unemployment rate has fallen below 5% since February 2020, right before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Over the course of the month, the state added 4,400 nonfarm jobs, bringing the total number of nonfarm jobs to 1,619,400—a 1.3% increase compared to August 2025.

The Las Vegas metropolitan area led job additions, gaining 7,000 jobs (a 0.6% increase) since July. That’s up by 14,200 jobs from August of 2025.

Even with strong job creation, the total civilian labor force decreased by nearly 6,000 over the same month-long period.
