13-Year-Old Dies While Playing Football In Windgap

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) – A teenage boy died after collapsing while playing football on Wednesday evening.

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, city police, fire, and EMS crews arrived to a field near Chartiers Avenue and Middletown Way around 7:40 P.M. 


The Allegheny County medical examiner has identified the boy as 13-year-old Jordon Duckett.

Duckett had been playing football and collapsed while running. He was taken to Children's Hospital at Pittsburgh of UPMC, where he was pronounced dead.

An emergency meeting will be held on Thursday at Chartiers Field with grief counselors on-site to help everyone going through this tragic time.

"In times like this, football becomes secondary. We are at a loss for words after hearing the tragic news regarding the passing of a 13-year-old boy from the Westside Mustangs Youth Athletic Association - WMYAA," The Duquesne Dukes said in official statement. "Our thoughts, prayers and support are with the family, team, coaching staff and the entire Mustang Organization during this difficult time." #WestsideStrong"

The medical examiner's office is performing an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
