A convenience store north of Pittsburgh has been ruled “out of compliance” after a food inspection.
The PA Department of Agriculture’s food safety program says the Planet Mart at 642 Pittsburgh Road in Penn Township was hit with six violations that resulted in it being ruled “out of compliance”.
The other location on Pittsburgh Road in Mars, along with locations in Adams Township and Cabot/Sarver are not affected.
Inspectors say some of the violations included food at an unsafe holding temperature in the grab-and-go area.
They include cooked chicken, pizza, mashed potato and pierogis not at the 41 degrees or lower safe zone. Those items were all thrown away.
Chicken strips and popcorn chicken in the hot hold case were hot at temperatures of 116 and 120-degrees, which is below the safe temperatures of 135 or higher. Those items were also thrown away.
Another issue was observed near the “exposed food preparation” area with inspectors saying it is under “dirty ventilation ducts, and subject to potential contamination along with repairs being made “with the ceiling open without effective protection or separation of food preparation.”
Inspectors say the market has until April 7th to make repairs or may face more fines during re-inspection.

The market is NOT ordered to close and is allowed to operate while it makes the proper corrections.
