PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) – A 23-year-old has died as a result of the coronavirus in Allegheny County, they are the youngest victim of the virus in the area so far.

Officials say the death occurred at the end of April but was mistakenly listed in another county.


"The individual had significant chronic health conditions," the Allegheny County Health Department said in its daily update on Tuesday.

The total number of those who have lost their life to COVID-19 is 179, 167 deaths are confirmed, 12 are probable.

The age range of those who have died is from 23-103 with 84 being the median age.

The number of cases of COVID-19 in the county have fallen once again after a spike of 45 positive cases were reported on Monday.

The Allegheny County Health Department confirms 19 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday.

There are now 2,239 confirmed cases. Of those, 2,100 are confirmed and 139 are probable.

During a rare Monday news conference, Health Department Director, Dr. Debra Bogen said the rise in numbers was "concerning."

Five additional hospitalizations are being reported to bring the total past and present to 370.

13 percent of the cases in the county are in healthcare workers.

The PA Department of health reports 46,780 negative tests in Allegheny County.
