PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - An Altoona man was stopped by Transportation Security Administration officers Thursday at Pittsburgh International Airport with a 9mm handgun loaded with 15 bullets.
TSA officers spotted the gun in the man's backpack as it entered the checkpoint x-ray machine. TSA officers contacted Allegheny County Police who confiscated the firearm and detained the man for questioning.
Penalties for attempting to bring a firearm through airport security can be as high as $13,333 with a typical first offense costing $4,100.
Even if you have a concealed carry permit you are still not permitted to carry a firearm onto an airplane.
This is the 34th gun stopped by TSA at the airport so far this year matching last year's total.
