
Sonny is a mobster who only wants the best for the young boy.
“Sonny told him the same exact thing as the father did - stay in school, go to college, make something out of yourself, and get out of the neighborhood. It's just that because of who Sonny was, people thought, well he wants him to be gangster. No we never wanted him to be a gangster,” Palminteri explains.
The actor from the Bronx wrote the play in 1989 after witnessing a murder take place while he was sitting on his stoop. It was later adapted in to a film, and now musical.
