PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Saturday afternoon, Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald confirmed two cases of COVID-19 in Allegheny County during a press conference held with the Allgheny County Health Department and officials from AHN and UPMC.
"Yesterday, the county announced a number of additional steps that corresponded with revised guidance from the Health Department," said Fitzgerald "Those steps were taken to mitigate any impact on our community should we have local COVID-19 cases. That day is today, but working together, we are prepared and ready to continue to serve the public and protect our community."
Two adults tested positive for the coronavirus, one in their 60s and one in their 70s. Both individuals are now isolated in their homes.
The two were checked into West Penn Hospital on Friday. Precautionary measures were taken while they checked into the emergency department of the hospital and were discharged and sent into quarantine at their homes.
"Knowing that many residents are likely to be concerned about potential exposure or interaction with the two cases, it's important that we remind the community that COVID-19 can only be spread through close contact," said Bogen.
While there is no known spread throughout the county at this time, the Allegheny County Health Department does expect additional local cases to be confirmed.
Fitzgerald also announced that tests will be free of chrage -- whether insured or unisured.
