PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - There are question is to whether the conversion therapy ban passed last night in Allegheny County council could lead to a court challenge.

The vote was overwhelming 13-2.


The ban would prohibit mental health providers from using the therapy on minors.

Conversion therapy or other titles it goes by, is an attempt to change a person's feelings of same sex attraction or gender identity.

Carlos Torres who heads Pittsburgh's Persad Center is confident the law could withstand a legal challenge

"The American Medical Association is against it, the American Pediatric Association is against it, said Torres.

County Councilman Sam DeMarco who authored an alternative version of the bill believes it violates free speech of mental health providers.
