PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - A ban on evictions and foreclosures that was set to expire May 11 in Pennsylvania has been extended by Governor Tom Wolf.
The 60 day extension runs until July 10.
Wolf says rent and mortgage payments will still be due.
“If you’re having trouble making payments, I encourage you to contact your mortgage company or your landlord, and I ask those companies and those landlords to work with homeowners and renters during this difficult time for all of us,” said Wolf.
Attorney General Josh Shaprio joined Wolf to jointly announce the extension.
Shapiro says the intent for banks, landlords and residents to work together during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We recognize that landlords need to put food on the table as well and that’s why the governor and I have been very clear that look, rent is still due and that landlords will work with you if you need some type of relief,” Shapiro said.
At least 1.7 million Pennsylvanians have lost their jobs due to the economic shutdown caused by the coronavirus.
After July 10, the legal process can begin to evict unless the ban is extended.
