The long-anticipated construction of the first Wegmans store in Western PA begins in early August.
The grocery chain says a groundbreaking is scheduled for Thursday, August 13 in Cranberry Township.
The first Wegmans in the Pittsburgh area will be located at 5000 Cool Springs Drive with a grand opening planned for some time in fall 2027.
“The store will feature an abundant produce department, a wide variety of seafood, meat, bakery, deli and cheese options, and a large selection of wine and beer,” Wegmans says. “In addition, the store will have a market café with indoor and outdoor seating for customers to enjoy Wegmans delicious restaurant foods.”
“When we opened our first Pennsylvania store more than 30 years ago, we were welcomed with open arms,” said Tom Jeppi, store manager of the future Wegmans Cranberry location. “Since then, we’ve proudly grown our presence across the Commonwealth to 19 stores, building meaningful relationships with customers and communities along the way. As we prepare to open our first location in the Pittsburgh area, we look forward to becoming part of the community, developing local partnerships, and delivering the exceptional service and fresh, high-quality products Wegmans is known for.”
The store will bring about 450 new jobs to the Pittsburgh area.

Wegmans currently has 114 stores along the east coast of the United States.
