PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) Bar and restaurant owners across the state of Pennsylvania are joining together in giving Gov. Tom Wolf an ultimatum regarding the restrictions put in place.
The bar and restaurant owners are hoping to grab the attention of the state government and have them pull back on some of the restrictions that have been put in place since the spread of coronavirus began.
The ultimatum is not aiming to get rid of the restrictions all together, but to modify them so they resemble those that are being used in other states.
State Senator Jay Costa joined Lynn Hayes-Freeland and Robert Mangino on Newsradio 1020 KDKA to discuss his actions in the signing of the letter to Gov. Wolf.
Sen. Costa noted New York and Ohio as a pair of states that are using lesser restrictions than Pennsylvania.
"Recommended to the Governor some modifications to his order that would allow them to operate in a way other states are operating," Sen. Costa said. "Ohio and New York for example specifically."
Sen. Costa is in agreement with the business owners in that there needs to be changes in the COVID-19 restrictions, but is hesitant about a 'go rogue' date that is being set.
"I have a concern about the Aug. 14 go rogue date," Sen. Costa said. "I don't necessarily believe going rogue is the answer."
Business owners have stated in their letter to the Governor that if the ultimatum is not met by Aug. 14, they will open up to full capacity without a change in restriction.
Sen. Costa said that if businesses were to go through with their plans on the 'go rogue' date, they would forfeit their opportunity at grants or funding that would be given to them upon the lifting of the restrictions.
The letters will be sent to Gov. Wolf and Health Department Secretary Rachel Levine on behlf of all restaurant and bar owners in the state of Pennsylvania, and has been signed by multiple state representatives, including Sen. Costa.
