PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Former Head Coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers and 2020 Pro Football Hall of Fame Inductee Bill Cowher will be the American Ireland Funds First Recipient of the Daniel M. Rooney Ambassador Award.

The Crafton native will receive the honor on St. Patrick’s Day - Tuesday, March 17 at the Heinz Field UPMC Club. The reception will begin at 6:00 p.m.

“We all know the fondness and passion that Dan Rooney had for Ireland, and I know when I first came to Pittsburgh; one of the first charity events I went to was the Ireland Fund Dinner,” Cowher said, during an interview with KDKA Radio on Wednesday. “You could just see what it meant to him, what it meant to pat - the whole family.”

Cowher’s wife, Veronica Stigeler, (Queen V) will sing and perform during the event.

"I am so honored, really, to receive this first award - because no one like the ambassador represented the very goodness of what Pittsburghers are all about. He gives, he represents, and he embodied really, all the various core fibers that make Pittsburgh a special city,” Cowher explains.
