PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Public testimony supports the call for a November referendum on strengthening Pittsburgh’s Citizens Police Review Board.
However Tim Stevens who heads the Black Political Empowerment Project, is concerned the changes could give the city too much say in review board operations.
Sponsor, Councilman Ricky Burgess, tells the KDKA Radio Morning Show he still wants officers to be required to testify to the board
“In often cases they’re not really required, if they don’t want to, to testify before the Police Civilian Review Board so we want to strengthen its power.”
Burgess is reportedly working on a compromise and final version to get before council as soon as next week.
