PITTSBURGH, PA (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Bishop David Zubik and the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh are releasing an updated schedule for Holy Week to account for COVID-19.
Bishop Zubik will livestream mass and prayer services to allow people to watch and listen remotely.
Other parishes will also offer online, remote masses that can be dropped-in on digitally.
Zubik is also allowing short visits, but the church will otherwise remain shut down during normal mass and service hours.
There will be a live streamed mass service on Palm Sunday, April 5 that will be done by Bishop Zubik at 10 a.m.
Blessed palms will be made available for pickup at a later time.
Bishop Zubik will lead an Evening Mass of the Lord's Supper on Holy Thursday, on April 9, via livestream.
The Washing of the Feet will be canceled for 2020.
On Good Friday, April 10, Bishop Zubik will perform Friday of the Passion of the Lord at 3 p.m. also done by livestream.
An annual blessing over the City of Pittsburgh will be postponed and rescheduled for a later time.
Easter baskets will not be blessed this year.
A livestream will broadcast the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday, April 11.
There will be a mass livestream on Easter Sunday, which is April 12, but the Blessing of Families event at St. Paul Cathedral is cancelled, however.
