PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) Central Catholic High School has announced it will begin to randomly drug testing their students.
In a ‘non-invasive’ procedure, students will have a hair sample taken as part of the random tests.
The new wellness initiative will begin next school year.
The school spoke with counselors and the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh before making the decision to add the new initiative.
“The well-being of our students is of the upmost importance,” Bishop David Zubik said in a press release.
After multiple positive tests, students will be forced to face discipline and receive help for their possible addiction.
Central Catholic is the first Pittsburgh area school to implement the random testing, following multiple others around the state.
