PITTSBURGH, PA (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - The diocese is aiming to begin opening churches, step-by-step.
One of the first steps for the Catholic church is allowing private prayer and reconciliation.
The diocese is also planning on "continuing directives for small weddings and funeral Masses."
The groups will not be able to exceed 25 people, though.
Safety and disinfection guidelines will be put into place for private prayer and confession meetings.
The changes will go into effect on Friday, May 15.
The preparations are being made to align with when Allegheny, Butler, Greene, and Washington counties move into the yellow phase of COVID-19 business reopening.
"Our strategic reopening plan will be done in phases based on comprehensive recommendations from a diocesan COVID-19 Task Force Team in coordination and consultation with state and regional health care leaders," said Bishop David Zubik.
"Although we are all so eager to get back to some sense of normal, we recognize that these sacrifices have been essential to keeping each other safe during this deadly pandemic. I am greatly appreciative of all in our faith community who have shown a great amount of patience during this unprecedented time."
