PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Dollar Energy Fund is continuing their utility assistance program for low-income families through the COVID-19 pandemic.

Their Hardship Program and enrollment services for Customer Assistance Programs are operational, however limited staffing may lead to longer wait times.

The Dollar Energy Fund encourages customers to reach out to utilities directly for programs as well.

"It is important for those who are worried about how they will pay their next utility bill to initiate the necessary conversations to learn about assistance options," said Chad Quinn, chief executive officer for Dollar Energy Fund.  "As more and more households are finding themselves with a very sudden partial or complete loss of income, Dollar Energy Fund encourages people to contact their utility company as soon as they can to see what programs are available to help lessen their financial burden during this critical time.  The utilities can screen you for a variety of assistance options, including Dollar Energy Fund's Hardship Program."

There is currently and emergency order in Pennsylvania prohibiting utility shutoffs during the pandemic.
