PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Vitalant (formerly the Central Blood Bank) will now test all blood donations for antibodies to COVID-19.

Therefore, if a person donates his or her blood, that person will know if they already had COVID-19.

“We all know someone, even ourselves, who thinks, wow. I was really sick back in January, February, March. Maybe I had it,” said Marketing Lead at Vitalant, Kristen Lane.

A positive test does not mean that person is immune to COVID-19, but they would be eligible to donate convalescent plasma in the future.

“We transfuse that plasma in to people who are very, very sick with COVID-19,” Lane adds.
