PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Local Thrift stores have asked people to refrain from donating during the coronavirus pandemic.
Stores like St. Vincent De Paul are currently closed and unable to sort through donations.
But that hasn’t stopped many from leaving their stuff outside of the stores.
The Society of St. Vincent De Paul tells KDKA Radio, most of the items will have to be thrown away.
“Unfortunately, most of the donations left outside would be thrown away (mold after exposure to the weather).”
The society asks that everyone holds onto their donations until it is deemed safe to resume collections without risk of exposure of COVID-19 to employees and volunteers.
“We know that after this pandemic ends, many more of our neighbors will be in need ... if people would like to donate money, they can go to donatepittsburgh.org ... but please hold those donations until we can safely retrieve them.”
