PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Only hours after it was announced Dependable Drive-In in Moon Township would reopen, another announcement has come out saying the green light for Drive-in theaters in Pennsylvania was an error by the state.
Dependable says on Facebook they got word from Governor Tom Wolf’s spokesperson that they would be allowed to open as long as they followed social distancing guidelines.
“Sadly, we got word today that the statement was issued in error, and drive-ins in PA are not permitted to open,” a statement read.
The drive-in goes on to say they can’t survive being closed much longer.
They say they took on a large amount of debt to upgrade their restroom facilities with touch-less technology, as well as ordering food for concessions and other expenses.
While Dependable says they were planning the upgrades anyway, they wanted to do them only when they knew revenue would soon be coming in.
“Please understand, safety is our highest concern, and we will not open if it is not safe. We do not want to see anyone get sick. Wanting to get open is not about greed or wanting money, its the simple fact of having to pay bills when there is nothing coming in, and spending a large amount of money on the pretense that we would be able to pay it off in the coming weeks.”
Dependable has been open for 70 years.
“We apologize for this mix up, and can assure you nobody is more disappointed than us. We thank you for being our loyal customers for so long, and hope to see you all again soon.”
