PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - On Tuesday, an undercover drug task force met 27-year-old Chase Kenney of the North Side at Ken Mawr Plaza in Kennedy Township to buy ten bricks of heroin.
Ruggerey says after they identified themselves to Kenney, he rammed a Trooper’s SUV with his car and then tried to run over three officers on foot.
“Two members of the Pennsylvania and one officer from the Stowe Township Police Department that were in the path of Mr. Kenney’s vehicle discharged their firearms at Mr. Kenney in an attempt to stop his actions.”
Ruggerey says the task force tried to limit risk to the public in the operation:
“They picked the location in front of that abandoned Shop ‘N Save store that is actually away from the part of that plaza that’s still occupied by businesses and potentially have foot traffic going in and out,” said Ruggerey.
Kenney was wounded in the arm, he is stable at Allegheny General Hospital. He faces numerous charges.
The Allegheny County District Attorney is overseeing an investigation into the shooting.
