First PA State Prison Inmate Dies From Coronavirus

HARRISBURG (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - The first inmate death has been reported by the Pennsylvania Correctional System.

The 67-year-old African American man died last Wednesday at a hospital in Philadelphia.

He was serving a life term for murder at the state prison in Montgomery County.

The coroner notified prison officials over the weekend that the cause of death was acute respiratory distress caused by pneumonia related to COVID-19.

The inmate also had cardiovascular disease and liver cirrhosis.
