PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) – It’s back to the future for a building that for decades housed a movie theater in downtown Pittsburgh. The Cultural Trust has started interior demolition on the former Bally’s Total Fitness Club on Sixth Street next to the Renaissance Hotel.

“The demolition work that we are doing right now inside the theater is really removing those features. There’s not anything left of the original movie house,” said McMahon.

The Trust plans a six screen theater with about a hundred comfortable seats, liquor bar with light food and all the amenities of larger suburban theaters. McMahon says the idea is to provide something not currently available in the Cultural District

The $11 million dollar project is expected to take at least two years to complete.
