HARRISBURG (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - The Pennsylvania Game Commission is making fluorescent orange rules more consistent for hunters.

New regulations lift orange requirements for fall turkey hunters and many bow-hunters during overlapping firearms seasons.

Previous regulations varied greatly for different seasons, especially when they overlapped.

So much so that the rules were difficult to enforce and were confusing even for Game Wardens.

State Game Commission spokesperson Travis Lau tells KDKA Radio the change aims to make things consistent.

“Those bow hunters that had to wear varying amounts during those overlaps in previous seasons, do not have to wear, they’re not required to wear any orange in these seasons moving forward,” said Lau. “Fall turkey hunters the same, the requirement has been lifted.”

Lau adds KDKA while the orange is no longer requirement for more hunters, they advise it still be worn.

“We would recommend that every hunter, regardless of the species they’re hunting, whether they’re on private or public ground, always carry with them some florescent orange material,” said Lau.

Most firearms hunters are required to wear the same amount of fluorescent orange 250 square inches at all times.
