The Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank is holding a food distribution Tuesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Galleria at Pittsburgh Mills mall in Tarentum.

People are asked to pre-register on the Food Bank’s website. Each registration receives what the Food Bank calls one 'share' of food - which is at least 50 pounds of food.

Up to 600 vehicles will be able to be served during the drive-up time frame.

Since mid-July, the Food Bank is not requiring people to provide eligibility proof to receive food. They say anyone is eligible.

If you're planning to attend the distribution, there are a couple of safety rules that must be followed:

  • You must stay in your vehicles at all times
  • Once you're in "distribution row," you must put your vehicle in park and unlock the trunk or backseat so volunteers can load your vehicle

The Food Bank's website says the distribution will end promptly at 7pm.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Food Bank had to move away from its regular large-scale distribution events in favor of drive-up distributions to help ensure safety of staff, volunteers and recipients. The Food Bank website also lists alternative ways to receive food for those who do not have a vehicle.
