PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) — As travelers prep for the Fourth of July holiday, they will see that the gas prices have risen throughout western Pennsylvania.

According to AAA East Central’s Gas Price Report, gas has gone up six cents this week to $2.948 per gallon.

The increase comes after the PES South Philadelphia refinery fire. Gas prices across the state increased by seven cents after the fire and announcement of the refinery closure.

AAA expects that prices will continue to rise as a record-high number of travelers hit the road over the holiday.

If you are traveling outside of the state for the holiday, travelers will have, on average, cheaper gas prices than Memorial Day weekend, but more expensive than the past few weeks.
