PITTSBURGH, PA (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Goodwill of Southwestern Pennsylvania has developed a no-contact system to help process new donations and curb the number of unattended drop-offs that have been left at the stores.
The donation centers will be open everyday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m to help facilitate the new donation process.
Goodwill is accepting donations again after large accumulations of abandoned donations began to cause health and safety issues in the respective communities.
The stores were initially closed and donations were not being taken as a result of COVID-19.
“We know that many people are doing their spring cleaning while at home during the COVID-19 situation,” said Mike Smith, President/CEO of Goodwill of Southwestern Pennsylvania.
“We know people need an outlet for all of the merchandise they have accumulated, and we don’t want community donations to end up in the trash. Having our donation centers available helps alleviate unintended health and safety consequences, as well as hurting our environment by filling landfills with material that could be reused.”
For those looking to donate, there will be self-service areas or other marked donation locations at each store; there are 27 across southwestern Pennsylvania.
The items will then go through a quarantine process after being donated.
