HARRISBURG (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Earlier this year, Lieutenant Governor John Fetterman went on a Listening Tour stopping at all 67 counties to gauge how the public feels about legalized recreational marijuana in Pennsylvania.

Lt. Gov. Fetterman's findings showed that 65 to 70 percent of those who engaged in the listening tour support legalization of cannabis for adults.

"The Lt. Gov. made good on his promise to visit all 67 counties to hear from Pennsylvanians about whether or not they support the legalization of adult-use recreational marijuana in the state," Gov. Wolf said. "And among the many who voiced their opinions, the majority supported legalization."

The study shows that a majority of those who attended one of the 70 stops over 90 days support the legalization except in a handful of counties.

"We've heard you, and this announcement today is our earnest effort to bring about the changes you've told us you want," Fetterman said.

Some things that people did raise concerns about are people driving high under the influence, cannabis being a "gateway" drug and most people are opposed to "candy-like" edibles because of the appeal it could have to children.

Fetterman added there was near unanimous support, even from those who don't support legalization, that marijuana be removed from the Class 1 list of drugs that include substances like heroin.
