(Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - One group is aiming to improve how Pennsylvanians connect to the world.

More than 100,000 people in West-Central Pennsylvania have no or limited access to Broadband Internet, that's the estimate of the Southern Alleghenies Planning and Development commission, who announced they are developing a plan to expand Internet coverage to areas in eight Pennsylvania counties.

The Post-Gazette reports one approach the group is considering is creating a non-profit regional co-op similar, but in larger scale, to Huntingdon County's Rural Broadband Cooperative.

The Commission is focusing on Bedford, Blair, Cambria, Fayette, Fulton, Huntingdon, Somerset and Westmoreland counties, conducting an Internet-needs survey to help determine the way forward.
