PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - UPMC announcing Thursday it will make all Hillman Cancer Center facilities available to all insurers, including Highmark.
It will be available at in-network rates following expiration of the consent decree with Highmark June 30.
A statement from Mayor Bill Peduto and county executive Rich Fitzgerald says in part, we are delighted with today's announcement.
"Their doctors are (at Hillman), they want to go there so they've now said Okay folks can go to the Hillman Cancer center and will be treated, won't be denied, will have in-network rates," said Fitzgerald
This week UPMC also announced prepayment would not be required for Highmark advantage patients and for emergency care.
Fitzgerald tells KDKA Radio's Marty and Wendy the news comes as a relief to him.
And they look forward to negotiating with the Attorney General and UPMC, if UPMC is willing to work in good faith.
UPMC Spokesperson Paul Wood tells Marty and Wendy has it has nothing to do with a lawsuit filed by Attorney General Josh Shapiro.
