PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - To celebrate the first day of spring and the warming weather ahead, Kennywood gave a preview of its latest achievement, “Steelers Country”.

The new area opening this season will feature games, food, a Steelers themed tailgating experience and will be anchored by the record-breaking “Steel Curtain” roller coaster.

Kennywood officials said even through the cold and wet winter construction crews have remained on schedule to complete the project by this summer.

Jerome Gibas, Kennywood’s general manager, said the project won’t be completed by opening day but that crews are working in extra shifts to have it ready as soon as possible while not compromising safety.

The “Steel Curtain” will set three records: world’s tallest inversion at 197 feet, the most inversions in North America with nine and will be Pennsylvania’s tallest coaster at 220 feet.

The coaster will carry 24 riders per trip on the 4,000 feet long track that will last two minutes.
