PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Kennywood’s open…well almost.

The amusement park announced Wednesday morning the 2020 season will begin on Saturday, July 11.

Season passholders can get a sneak preview July 7-10.

In addition, Sandcastle waterpark and Idlewild Park will also open on July 11

Kennywood and the other parks are implementing several safety precautions to keep visitors safe.

They including required face coverings, temperatures checks, hand sanitizers available throughout the park, social distancing, limiting capacity and more.

In addition, sanitizing teams will be roaming the park throughout the day cleaning high-touch surfaces and rides.

“The health and safety of our Guests and Team Members continues to be our top priority as we work to reopen in this new environment,” said Kennywood Assistant General Manager Rob Henninger. “We will continue working in step with local leaders, health experts and our industry colleagues to ensure best practices are in place at Kennywood, Sandcastle and Idlewild.”

Other safety measures being implemented include:

  • Guests will need to register for the date they wish to visit in advance, in addition to their regularly purchased Ticket or Season Pass.
  • The RSVP system will be available beginning Wednesday, June 17. Dates will be released in phases, and not all at once.
  • If the date you wish to visit is not listed in our online calendar, we may have already reached our capacity limit for that date, in which case you will need to choose another day. If you are looking for a date later in the summer, please check back again as we will open more dates as the summer progresses.
  • All those wishing to enter Kennywood (Guests, Team Members, Suppliers, and Contracted Partners) will have their temperatures scanned before entering the park.
  • Any person with a temperature of 100.4°F or higher, or displaying other symptoms of COVID-19, will be denied entry.
  • Facial coverings are also required for all entrants, except children under three and those with a valid medical condition.

An old favorite returns to Kennywood this season. The Old Mill will return after being Garfield's Nightmare since 2004.
