HARRISBURG (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Pennsylvania is reporting its highest one-day total of confirmed COVID-19 cases since May, breaking 1,000, although 175 test results were reported on a delay.
1,009 new cases are being reported in the commonwealth. That includes 180 new cases in Allegheny County and 182 in Philadelphia.
Around southwestern PA, Beaver is reporting 13 new cases (809 total), Butler seven new cases (403 total) Fayette 15 new cases, (178 total), Washington 44 new cases (410 total) and Westmoreland 35 new cases (952 total) or a total of 294 in the area.
A total of 93,876 cases have now been reported in Pennsylvania.
The PA Health Department also reports another 32 coronavirus-related deaths on Friday, bringing the state's total to 6,880.
As more people are tested, an increase in the raw number of positive cases is to be expected. But if the virus is being brought under control, then the percentage of positive results should be coming down.
Pennsylvania's seven-day positivity rate is 5.3 percent, according to an Associated Press analysist.
It was 4.4 percent two weeks ago.
The latest tests conducted within the last seven days between July 3 and July 9 was 128,821 with 4,793 positive cases.
The following regions have seen significant increases among 19 to 24-year-olds in each month from April to present in July:
- SW – Approximately 5 percent of cases in April to nearly 27 percent of cases so far in July;
- SE – Nearly 5 percent of cases in April to nearly 16 percent of cases so far in July;
- NE – Nearly 6 percent of cases in April to over 16 percent of cases so far in July;
- NW – Nearly 7 percent of cases in April to over 13 percent of cases so far in July; and
- NC – Nearly 8 percent of cases in April to nearly 11 percent of cases so far in July.
- SC – Approximately 7 percent of cases in April to nearly 13 percent of cases so far in July.18,164 of the state's total cases are in residents of nursing and personals care homes and 3,428 in workers for a total of 21,592.Of the states total deaths, 4,699 have occurred in nursing homes or long-care facilities. About 7,032 cases are in health care workers. All 67 counties in Pennsylvania are currently in the green phase of the state's mitigation plan.
