The state budget package signed by Gov. Josh Shapiro on Sunday contained a measure mandating recess for children.
Shapiro says a quality education isn’t just about dollars and cents, it’s about common sense.
“Common sense says that kids need more time to play and to socialize and to interact with one another, that’s why I’m incredibly thankful to the legislature that came together on a bipartisan basis and passed as part of this budget package, something that I called for in my budget address and that is a mandatory recess for K to 5th grade all throughout Pennsylvania,” said Governor Shapiro.
The law now requires schools to give K-through-5 students at least 30 minutes of recess every school day.
