PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Friday, March 22 was supposed to be a day spent celebrating the end of a career dedicated to healing, to giving, to inspiring.

After 50 years, Dr. Nosratollah Danai saw his last patient that day, and was planning to spend the first day of his retirement traveling to Washington D.C. to attend his granddaughter's first birthday party.

That Friday afternoon marked the end of Dr. Danai's extraordinary career, one that began in Semnan, Iran. The oldest of eight children, Nosratollah attended Mashad Medical School in hopes of becoming a pediatrician.

He married "the love of his life," Pouran Famili, Nostratollah's son, Saman, wrote on his Facebook page, and welcomed their first son, Pajman, in 1973. Together, the family of three immigrated to the United States in 1977, settling here in Pittsburgh, and welcoming a second son, Saman, in 1980.

After seeing his last patient, Doc left his practice and went to exercise at his local community center. On his walk home, about two blocks from his house, Dr. Danai was hit by a car. He was taken to the hospital, and passed away, with his family surrounding him, on March.

"I don't think it is coincidence that soon after the diagnosis of his fatal injuries, the sky opened up and it began to rain heavily." Saman wrote of his father. "I also do not believe it to be coincidence that after his passing, the skies cleared up and the sun began shinning bright."

In the below post, you get more of a sense of who this man was, and the legacy that he left behind.

Dr. Danai's life is one to know, to share, and to aspire to live up to.
